Be thankful that you
don't already have everything you desire
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary
Because it means you've made a difference.
It's easy to be thankful for the good things
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those
who are also thankful for the setbacks.
Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.

A Life That
Ready or not, someday it will all come to
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes,
hours or days.
All the things you collected, whether
treasured or forgotten,
will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame and temporal power will
shrivel to irrelevance.
It will not matter what you owned or what
you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations,
and jealousies will finally disappear.
So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and
to-do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once seemed so
important will fade away.
It won't matter where you came from, or
on what side of the tracks you lived, at
It won't matter whether you were beautiful
Even your gender and skin color will be
So what will matter? How will the value of
your days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought,
but what you built;
not what you got, but what you gave.
What will matter is not your success, but
What will matter is not what you learned,
but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity,
compassion, courage or sacrifice
that enriched, empowered or encouraged
others to emulate your example.
What will matter is not your competence,
but your character.
What will matter is not how many people you
but how many will feel a lasting loss when
What will matter is not your memories,
but the memories that live in those who
What will matter is how long you will be
by whom and for what.
Living a life that matters doesn't happen
It's not a matter of circumstance but of
Choose to live a life that matters.
... Enjoy the coffee instead.
A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit
their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about
stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and
returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups porcelain,
plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite -
telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor
said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up,
leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to
want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and
stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you
consciously went for the best cups and were eyeing each other's cups.
Now if life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the
cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life
doesn't change. Some times, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy
the coffee in it."
Don't let the cups drive you...
Enjoy the coffee instead.
